The Lusail International Circuit, with its medium- and high-speed corners, proved to be a tricky test for both drivers. Leclerc and Hamilton struggled to tame their cars, and the limited practice time, with only one hour of Free Practice before Sprint Qualifying, didn't help their cause.
Hamilton, the seven-time World Champion, failed to progress beyond the opening segment for the second race in a row, a rare occurrence for the legendary driver. Leclerc, on the other hand, managed a ninth-place finish, but it was a challenging lap that saw him slip to thirteenth position, where he ultimately ended the race.
A Frustrating Drive
Leclerc summed up his experience, saying, "It felt horrible." He continued, "I don't have any explanations right now. It was incredibly difficult to drive the car."
He suspected damage to his vehicle, which seemed to cause most of the problems during the opening lap. "We'll analyze it, but for now, it's a mystery,"
When asked about potential solutions for Qualifying, Leclerc was blunt: "We need a massive change. If the car remains the same, there's nothing we can do to improve."
A Disappointing Result
Hamilton, starting from the pit lane due to car changes, finished seventeenth, a far cry from his usual podium finishes. He commented, "We made some changes, which is why we started from the pit lane, but unfortunately, it was in the wrong direction."
And this is the part most people miss: the impact of these results on the championship standings. With Ferrari's recent struggles, the team's position in the pecking order has slipped, and the gap to the front-runners is widening.
